Concrete grinding & floor preparation
Planetary concrete grinding with shrouded heads and HEPA H13 extraction. We strip carpet glue, thinset, paint and old coatings, bring down high spots and open the surface so epoxy, polish or self-leveling concrete bonds for good.

What is concrete grinding?
Concrete grinding is the removal of a slab's top layer with diamond tooling on a planetary floor grinder. MIR grinds from 16 to 400 grit: coarse grits strip glue, paint and old leveling compound; finer grits flatten the surface and set the profile the next product needs.
MIR runs full-size planetary machines for open floors and edge grinders for walls and corners. Every floor grinder is shrouded and connected to HEPA H13 vacuum extraction, so the dust goes into a bag instead of your HVAC system.
Garage floor grinding in Whitby, Oshawa & Ajax
Epoxy and polyaspartic garage coatings fail when they sit on a smooth, sealed or contaminated slab. Garage floor grinding removes the laitance, old paint and oil-stained surface so the coating can bite into clean concrete.
MIR grinds garage floors for homeowners and coating installers across Whitby, Oshawa, Ajax and the rest of Durham Region, and patch cracks and spalls in the same visit.
Concrete floor prep contractor for epoxy installers
MIR works as the floor prep contractor for epoxy, polished-concrete and resinous flooring installers: grinding to the surface profile you specify, patching, crack chasing and handing the floor back clean and vacuumed on your schedule.
Commercial and multi-unit work is covered on our commercial & condo contractor page.
Concrete grinding for hardwood installation & LVP
Hardwood, engineered plank and LVP all come with a flatness spec. Concrete grinding for hardwood installation takes down the humps a flooring installer can not shim out, and if the low spots are too deep to feather we follow up with self-leveling concrete.
Commercial concrete floor grinding across the GTA
MIR's commercial concrete floor grinding in Toronto and the GTA covers retail units after a tenant moves out, warehouses, condo common areas and office fit-outs, using HEPA H13-extracted grinders and one crew for grinding, patching and leveling.
We also grind and hone slabs as the prep stage for concrete polishing, so your polishing contractor starts on a flat, open surface.

Concrete Grinding questions.
MIR keeps grinding dust to a minimum. Every grinder and scarifier is shrouded and connected to a HEPA H13 vacuum, and work areas are sealed with plastic sheeting where the space calls for it. Expect a light clean-up, not a dusty house.
Yes. Garage floor grinding is one of our most common residential jobs in Whitby, Oshawa and Ajax. We grind to open the surface, repair cracks and spalls, and hand it back ready for your coating installer — or for you.
Usually, yes. Self-leveling needs a clean, sound, open surface to bond. Old adhesive, paint and weak surface concrete are ground off first so the pour does not delaminate later.
Grinding is usually quoted by the day, based on the area and what has to come off. The on-site assessment is free and the quote is fixed-price.
