Concrete chipping & controlled removal

Delaminated, hollow or badly deteriorated concrete doesn't get patched over — it gets chipped out. We remove unsound sections down to solid substrate with electric chipping hammers and rebuild the area back to level.

When does concrete need chipping instead of patching?

A patch only lasts if it bonds to sound concrete. When a slab has delaminated — you can hear it sound hollow when tapped — or has old failed patches, the weak material has to come out first. Concrete chipping removes it down to solid substrate so the repair has something to hold on to.

Concrete chipping services in Toronto & the GTA

MIR's concrete chipping services in Toronto, Whitby and Durham cover spot removal on residential slabs, deteriorated areas in condo and commercial floors, and prep before toppings. MIR uses electric chipping hammers for control and keep the work area contained.

You can watch the crew chipping out unsound concrete on a commercial job in the video on this page, and see more on our work page.

Concrete cutting & clean repair edges

Where a repair calls for it, concrete cutting along the repair perimeter gives the patch clean, square edges instead of feathered ones that crack. Then we chip out the section, clean it and prepare it for concrete patching.

From chipping to a finished, level floor

Chipping is rarely the last step. After the unsound concrete is out we rebuild the area with repair mortar and, if the floor needs it, pour self-leveling concrete over the whole room — one crew, one schedule, one invoice.

Concrete Chipping FAQ

Concrete Chipping questions.

We sound the slab — delaminated concrete rings hollow when tapped — and look for cracking, crumbling and failed old patches. Only unsound material is removed.

The area is cleaned and rebuilt with repair mortar, then ground flush or covered with self-leveling concrete so the finished floor is flat.

No. Chipping is targeted removal of damaged sections so the rest of the slab can stay. Full slab demolition and replacement is a different trade.
